Decoherence in the Heisenberg model

چکیده

We study a simplified Heisenberg spin model in order to clarify the idea of decoherence in closed quantum systems. For this purpose, we define a new concept: the decoherence function Ξ(t), which describes the dynamics of decoherence in the whole system, and which is linked with the total (von Neumann) entropy of all particles. As expected, decoherence is understood both as a statistical process that is caused by the dynamics of the system, and also as a matter of entropy. Moreover, the concept of decoherence time is applicable in closed systems and we have solved its behaviour in the Heisenberg model with respect to particle number N , density ρ and spatial dimension D in a 1/r -type of potential. We have also studied the Poincaré recurrences occurring in these types of systems: in an N = 1000 particle system the recurrence time is close to the order of the age of the universe. This encourages us to conclude that decoherence is the solution for quantum-classical problems not only in practice, but also in principle. PACS numbers: 03.65.Ta, 03.65.Yz Submitted to: J. Phys. Coherence theory and coherence phenomena in a closed spin 1/2 system

We study a simplified Heisenberg spin model in order to clarify the idea of decoherence in closed quantum systems. For this purpose, we define a new concept: the coherence function Ξ(t), which describes the dynamics of coherence in the whole system, and which is linked with the total coarsegrained (von Neumann) entropy of all particles. We discuss in some detail a general coherence theory and i...

On Decoherence in Quantum Clock Synchronization

We study two quantum versions of the Eddington clock-synchronization protocol in the presence of decoherence. The first protocol uses maximally entangled states to achieve the Heisenberg limit for clock synchronization. The second protocol achieves the limit without using entanglement. We show the equivalence of the two protocols under any single-qubit decoherence model that does not itself pro...

Energetic Suppression of Decoherence in Exchange-Only Quantum Computation

Universal quantum computation requiring only the Heisenberg exchange interaction and suppressing decoherence via an energy gap is presented. The combination of an always-on exchange interaction between the three physical qubits comprising the encoded qubit and a global magnetic field generates an energy gap between the subspace of interest and all other states. This energy gap suppresses decohe...

Creating decoherence-free subspaces using strong and fast pulses.

A decoherence-free subspace (DFS) isolates quantum information from deleterious environmental interactions. We give explicit sequences of strong and fast ["bang-bang" (BB)] pulses that create the conditions allowing for the existence of DFSs that support scalable, universal quantum computation. One such example is the creation of the conditions for collective decoherence, wherein all system par...

Physical Optimization of Quantum Error Correction Circuits

Quantum error correcting codes have been developed to protect a quantum computer from decoherence due to a noisy environment. In this paper, we present two methods for optimizing the physical implementation of such error correction schemes. First, we discuss an optimal quantum circuit implementation of the smallest error-correcting code (the three bit code). Quantum circuits are physically impl...
